Product Identifiers

Available for Hub Inventory Small, Midsized, and Huge licenses.

Introduction

Selling on marketplaces requires understanding the coding of products through the Identifiers that each marketplace uses.

Product Identifiers are alphanumeric codes (composed of letters and numbers) that uniquely identify a product listing.

These Identifiers can be standard and shared across different geographical areas worldwide by the retail industry, such as EAN (European Article Number) for Europe, UPC (Universal Product Code) for North America, or they can be internal use identifiers specific to certain marketplaces.

For example, on Amazon, these are known as ASIN (Amazon Standard Identification Number), while on eBay, the product identifier is called ePID (eBay Product Identifier), which became mandatory in 2019 (refer to this article for more information). Both represent a unique code assigned to a product by the marketplace.

Identifiers and MarketRock

On MarketRock, it is possible to add an Identifier within the product listing by clicking on the "Identifiers" tab.

The values entered for the Identifiers will be used by MarketRock for the distribution of the product on the relevant sales channel.

For instance, when entering the ePID, the information will be sent to eBay for the creation of a product, and similarly, the ASIN will be sent to Amazon.

It is possible to reference all the ASINs for all the markets for a particular product. A product can have multiple identifiers, but only one for each combination of type + market + sub-market. This means that a product can have N ASINs but only one for the Amazon Italy market.

If the ASIN is the same for all Amazon markets, a single ASIN can be entered without specifying the sub-market.

Since a product can have both a market-specific ASIN (e.g., Amazon Italy) and a generic ASIN (i.e., only Amazon), the more specific one will be used first, and in its absence, the generic one will be used.

Each product variant can have its own Identifier.

Identifiers and Product Synchronization

MarketRock allows synchronization even when the Identifiers differ for each target market.

Thus, it is possible to fully synchronize the MarketRock Inventory with all markets, regardless of the coding adopted and without necessarily modifying the Identifiers on individual marketplaces.

To achieve this, a setup is required to "reconcile" the Inventories.
