Available for Hub Inventory Small, Midsized, and Huge licenses.
Introduction
To use Simple Import, click on Products > Simple Import.
The Simple Import function allows you to manage the MarketRock Inventory by creating or bulk-modifying the listed Products.
The name "Simple Import" comes from the fact that once the file is used for a specific purpose, the file and the MarketRock Inventory lose any connection. This means that if you import the file today to modify, for example, the Prices in the MarketRock Inventory, and tomorrow the prices in the file change, MarketRock will not be updated accordingly unless you use the Simple Import function again to apply the modifications.
If you need to modify the MarketRock Inventory regularly based on changes in a file, you should use what MarketRock calls Synchronization Management.
Both Simple Import and Synchronization Management involve processing Products in the MarketRock Inventory through a file.
- With Simple Import, file modifications must be uploaded manually.
- With Synchronization Management, file modifications are automatically received by MarketRock after configuration.
This article explains how the Simple Import function works as follows:
- Requirements and Use Cases
- Fields You Can Process
- Field Mapping
- Configuration Options
- Reporting
- A Common Use Case: Bulk-Modifying Quantities and Prices
- New Importable Fields for GPSR Product Import
Requirements and Use Cases
The file must be in a plain text format such as .csv, .txt, or .tsv and must contain at least three columns, one of which must be the SKU, with a maximum file size of 500 KB.
The file encoding accepted by Simple Import follows the UTF-8 standard (encoding determines how file bits are written, so if the file contains special characters, UTF-8 must be used).
ANSI and UTF-8 are equivalent if no special characters are present.
With Simple Import, you can:
- Create new Products. Variant Products are created separately, and you can merge them into a Parent Product using the function for unifying two or more Products.
- Modify existing Products in your MarketRock Inventory, such as adding Attribute values.
- Overwrite existing information in the MarketRock Inventory, such as Prices or Available Stock Quantity.
Simple Import does not currently support:
- Deleting Products already present in the Inventory (however, you can overwrite the Available Stock Quantity with "zero" to make them unsellable, but they won’t be deleted).
- Creating an Attribute Set.
Field processing is performed using the SKU code as the key. This means that MarketRock determines which product to create or modify based on the SKU code.
Fields You Can Process
You can upload the file by dragging it or clicking the Select button.
The fields you can process are:
- SKU – This is a fundamental field. If you want to modify a Product, SKU is the unique identifier on MarketRock. If you want to create a Product, you must specify an SKU.
- Price – If you have multiple Price Lists, you can create or modify each of them.
The decimal separator for prices must be "." (dot), not "," (comma).
- Attributes – If you have multiple Attribute Sets, in each language available on MarketRock.
- Brand
- Identifier
- Discount – If you have multiple Price Lists, you can create or modify each of them.
- Image – If applicable, for each distribution channel where a photo can be defined. The field expects an image URL.
- Name or Description – Optionally, for different languages.
- Preparation Time
- Size
- Quantity
- HS Code – Useful for Shipping.
- Warehouse Location – Useful for the picking list.
- Hazardous Goods
- Country of Origin
Field Mapping
Once the file is uploaded, click Analyze File. If the file is error-free, you can proceed with field mapping.
Mapping means telling MarketRock which column in your file corresponds to which field in the Inventory.
For example, if the third column of your file is called "item code", you will map this column to the field called "SKU" in MarketRock.
The columns in your file do not need to have the same names as the MarketRock fields.
For each file column, a corresponding column appears on the screen, allowing you to associate it with an Inventory field.
For some fields, additional information is required. For example, for Price, you must also specify the associated Price List, and for Name, the corresponding language.
Configuration Options
Before launching Simple Import, you must configure some options.
Be careful, as these settings can radically impact the outcome of the processing, affecting whether modifications are applied or ignored.
The options you must configure are:
-
Does the file have headers?
- Select this option if the first row of the file contains headers so they will be ignored during import.
-
Create new products
- Select this option to create new Products from the imported file.
- To create a Product, the "SKU" and "Name" fields must be filled.
- Simple Import allows you to create Variant Products, which you can later merge into a Parent Product using the Unify Two or More Products function.
- If this option is not selected, unknown SKUs in MarketRock will simply be ignored.
-
Modify existing products on MarketRock
- Select this option to modify existing Products on MarketRock.
- If not selected, known SKUs will not be processed.
-
Overwrite existing information on MarketRock
- Select this option if, in addition to modifying, you want to overwrite existing information with the data in the file.
- If not selected, the file is used only to add missing information.
Reporting
Once you have set up the Import, click Start Import to process the file.
The process will begin, and you can track its progress in the Activity Log.
A common error is "Duplicated item id". If this occurs, check your file and remove duplicate SKUs.
A Common Use Case: Bulk-Modifying Quantities and Prices
To bulk-modify the Quantity and/or Prices of your Products, follow these steps:
- Prepare an Excel file with two columns:
- SKU of the products to modify.
- Price to apply.
- Save the Excel file in .csv format.
- Upload the file through the Simple Import interface.
- Map the columns and configure the options as follows:
- File has headers? Checked
- Create new products? Not checked
- Modify existing products on MarketRock? Checked
- Overwrite existing information on MarketRock? Checked
- Start the Import and wait for the report.
New Importable Fields for GPSR Product Import
New fields have been added for importing GPSR safety information.
Importing Attachments and Safety Information:
- To import an attachment, use the "Attachment" field, specifying the type and (optionally) the associated language(s).
- If an attachment has multiple languages, use the "Culture" field, inserting a comma-separated list (e.g.,
"it,fr,de"
to associate Italian, French, and German).
This comma-separated format also applies to:
- GHS Classification/Pictograms: Allowed values – CompressedGas, Corrosive, EnvironmentallyDamaging, Explosive, Flammable, HealthHazard, Irritant, Oxidizing, Toxic.
- Markings: Allowed values – CE, FCC, UKCA, EAC.
- Hazardous Goods Type/Regulations: Allowed values – Storage, Waste, Transportation, GHS, Other.
- Standard Warnings: Allowed values – e.g., H200 warning codes.
