Shipping: Everything You Need to Know

Available for all licenses

Introduction

In this article, we cover everything you need to know about shipping that you can prepare and manage from MarketRock.

First, it is essential to understand the difference between a Shipment and an Order.

A Shipment is the instruction you give to a courier to ship the goods, which results in the issuance of a shipping label and a tracking code.
An Order contains all the information provided by the sales channel to MarketRock regarding the products you have sold and the customer who purchased them. This data is used for shipping, inventory management, and fulfilling tax obligations (invoicing, transport documents, etc.).

MarketRock allows you to manage Orders and Shipments in an integrated, simple, and intuitive way.

To generate a shipping label, you need to convert an Order into a Shipment through two steps:

  1. Preparing a Shipment: In this phase, you select the orders for which you want to create a shipment.
  2. Managing the Shipment: In this phase, you process shipments from the dedicated screen.

Before you can use all the shipping features, you must configure the Shipping Center in MarketRock. You can find out how to set it up in this article.

This guide covers the daily use of shipping functions. For order management, refer to the dedicated section.

We will cover the following topics in this order:

  1. Handing over the shipment to the courier and archiving it
  2. Printing labels
  3. Picking lists and shipping manifests

Buttons and Their Functions

MarketRock’s interface is intuitive. Below is a brief description of the buttons you’ll find on the Shipment Preparation and Shipment Management screens.

Order Screen Buttons (for preparing a shipment):

  • Set Packages
  • Set Couriers
  • Generate Picking List
  • Compare Rates
  • Save
  • Save and Send to Couriers

Shipment Screen Buttons (for managing shipments):

  • Confirm Shipments
  • Cancel Shipments
  • Retry Shipments

  • Generate Picking List
  • Generate Shipping Manifest

Preparing a Shipment

When you're ready to prepare a shipment, select the relevant orders from the Orders section and click Prepare Shipments.

If needed, you can modify the recipient’s information retrieved from the order.

At this stage, you transition from the Orders section to the Shipments section, where all shipments are listed—pending, sent, and archived ones.

To prepare a shipment, you must:

  1. Specify the number of packages to be shipped.
  2. Select the courier to use.

You can do this for individual shipments or multiple ones at the same time.

If you have entered warehouse location data for your products, it will be included in the picking list (accessible through Inventory Hub).

The shipment can then be saved or sent to the courier. If sent, it will appear in the Shipments section with the generated shipping label and tracking code.

The tracking code is immediately communicated to the platform where the order originated.

For insured shipments or cash-on-delivery shipments, mark the appropriate checkboxes under View Details.

Additional Shipping Information

Merging Multiple Orders into One Shipment

  • You can now combine multiple orders into a single shipment.
  • If multiple orders share the same recipient (name, address, city, ZIP code, country), MarketRock will notify you of this possibility.
  • You can merge them into one shipment with a single tracking code.

Shipment Filters

At the top of the Shipments screen, you can filter shipments into:

  • Valid
  • Invalid (missing information)
  • Duplicate Address (potentially mergeable shipments)

Shipment Validation

  • If a shipment is marked as invalid, click the error icon to view and correct missing details.

PUDO (Pick-Up Drop-Off Points)

This feature (available via API) allows you to:

  • Retrieve available PUDO locations from supported couriers (currently BRT and DHL Express).
  • Arrange a shipment to a PUDO location.
  • Handle returns, allowing customers to drop off goods at a PUDO.

Comparing Shipping Rates

MarketRock allows you to compare shipping rates.

For some couriers, rates are retrieved automatically via API from your contract.
For others, you must enter them manually during setup.

Automatically Retrieved Rates Manually Configured Rates
TNT, GLS, UPS, FedEx, DHL Express BRT, DHL Paket, DHL Connect, Poste, Spring

Saving a Shipment

If needed, you can save a shipment and send it to the courier later.

Saved shipments remain in the Shipment Management screen until you send them.

Managing a Shipment

The Shipments screen allows you to manage prepared and sent shipments.

The MarketRock workflow follows best shipping practices:

  1. Send the shipment to the courier.
  2. Generate the tracking code and shipping label.
  3. Print the shipping label.
  4. Hand over the packages to the courier and obtain a signed shipping manifest.
  5. Archive the shipment.

Handing Over the Shipment to the Courier and Archiving It

Once shipments are given to the courier, mark them as Delivered to Courier.

Archived shipments will no longer be included in shipping manifest printing.

Printing Labels

One of MarketRock’s most appreciated features is label printing, which saves users significant time.

  • Formats supported: A4 (standard inkjet) and various thermal printer formats.
  • Print one label at a time or bulk print multiple labels.
  • Optional details: Order ID, SKU, notes, and more (depends on courier support).

For customization options, check the Shipping Center settings for your courier.
